BMW have tweaked the motor to produce 110 BHP at 7600 rpm Max torque of a healthy 115 Nm is produced at 6000 rpm. The engine produces more torque and power than the R1200GS, by a 500 rpm increase in engine speed, a different intake system, new silencer and modified cams, and an increase in the compression ratio to 12:1 by the use of higher pistons. The BMS-K electronic engine management features anti-knock control and separate oxygen sensors that control the fuel/air mixture to each cylinder individually, so no more surging. This system also incorporates automatic idle speed control with an automatic cold start function. The anti-knock function allows the engine to run on lower grades down to 95 RON (85 USA),

anti-knock control allowing the use of lower-grade fuel.
RON 91 (called AKI 87 in the U.S.), 低階汽油~有此一說(路人marc說)

I called my local BMW dealer and was told that although the manual says that it can run on 91 RON (which is equivalent to 87 AKI) with "reduced performance fuel consumption", the bike needs to be remapped to allow this. I did a search on the web and found a 2004 BMW press release that says that the GS has anti-knock controls that allow it to run on 91 RON "without requiring any kind of manual intervention or adjustment". Those two statements are quite contradictory矛盾! The bike is under warranty till May 16th.

Surging and stumbling頓絆 are sometimes a sign of a bad spark plug or stick coil. I don't know if such issues can be caused by gas. Easy enough to find out. Put in a tank of AKI 91 and see if the problem goes away.
The bike has knock sensors and the engine management will retard the timing if knocking or pinging are detected. I have sometimes run a tank full of "regular" AKI 87 without problem save my gas mileage may have been reduced.
